SEATTLE, March 13 /PRNewswire/ — Award-winning Visio® Home 3.0 drawing and diagramming software is now available on CD-ROM. Shapeware Corp. announced its commitment to providing this essential home tool to the expanding number of home-computer users with CD-ROM drives. Visio Home is an easy-to-use, drag and drop drawing program that allows everyone in the household to create a variety of useful diagrams on the home PC, including calendars, family trees, greeting cards, home and landscape plans, and more.
"By providing Visio Home on CD-ROM, we are responding to our customers and retailers to satisfy the drawing needs of all home-PC users," said Ivar Michelsons, Visio Home product manager for Shapeware. "As proof of this growing market, analysts have reported that the sales of CD-ROM drives worldwide increased 137 percent from 1993 to 1994. Another survey in January this year showed that 9 percent of U.S. households have CD-ROM drives, which represents 30 percent of the home-PC installed base."
Visio Home 3.0 originally shipped in September 1994 on 3.5-inch floppy disk alone; however, the product is now shipping as a combined package that includes both CD-ROM and floppy disk media. In addition to offering customers more flexibility, this combined package simplifies stocking requirements for resellers, since they won't need to carry separate versions of the product. Visio Home 3.0 is available from software retailers and home-computer merchandisers nationwide. The suggested retail price of Visio Home 3.0 remains at $79; estimated street prices continue around $50.
"Before Visio Home, there was no single, easy-to-use tool that met all the graphics needs of the home-PC user. A person had to buy one product to make a family tree, another for home design and remodeling, and yet another for greeting cards and calendars," said Michelsons. "Visio Home 3.0 does it all _ it's the new tool to add to your list of household essentials, alongside your word processor and personal finance software."
Visio Home was selected as one of the Best Products of 1994 by PC Magazine and has been chosen as a finalist for the 1995 Excellence in Software awards by the Software Publishers Association.
