Newest Release of Visio Business Modeler Benefits from Power of Visio 5.0 Products

Add-on Combined with Any New Visio 5.0 Product Offers a Complete Tool for Creating Enterprise Blueprint to Streamline R/3 Implementations

ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ — Visio Corp. (Nasdaq: VSIO) today announced the next edition of its popular implementation tool for SAP R/3™, the Visio® Business Modeler, an add-on for Visio Standard, Visio Professional and Visio Technical software programs. The latest release has been incorporated as part of the SAP AcceleratedSAP™ rapid implementation program. It includes support of new value chain models and business process groups represented in the 3.1G and 3.1H repository of the SAP R/3 business application solution that will facilitate users' understanding of how processes in R/3 apply to a particular business. Combined with any of the products in the Visio 5.0 product line announced last week, Visio Business Modeler 3.0 enables users to create a more comprehensive view of their "as-is" IT infrastructure and organizational changes associated with an R/3 implementation.

"Capitalizing on practical experience gained as an R/3 customer ourselves, Visio has focused on offering current and potential SAP clients an easy way to document, share and update business drawings that communicate information vital to the implementation process," said Ted Johnson, executive vice president and chief technology officer at Visio. "The benefits of having users share a common view of the organization in the form of a drawing translates to a better and accelerated understanding of what R/3 can do as well as the project team's role in making it happen."

Visio 5.0 Products Add Power to Visio Business Modeler

By offering access to R/3 process models through the intuitive Visio interface, users can accelerate mastering the best-practices principles in R/3 and standardize business processes throughout the enterprise. The Visio Business Modeler, combined with any of the products in the Visio 5.0 product line, offers users enhanced capabilities to map R/3 business processes to their technology infrastructure. With Visio Standard 5.0's powerful new organizational charting capabilities, users can build a diagrammatic representation of their company from employee information that resides in legacy ODBC databases. Visio Professional 5.0 gives users the ability to create a diagram showing where this legacy data is stored so customers and consultants can clearly understand the history of transactions. Attributes associated with Visio's unique SmartShapes® symbols can also identify the R/3 processes each employee will own.

Using Visio Professional 5.0 combined with a separate Visio Professional add-on, Visio Network Equipment shapes, a user could also design and document logical and exact-replica physical network systems as they evolve through the implementation process. Another capability unique to the Visio 5.0 product line is ODMA support, which allows Visio drawings and diagrams to be stored and accessed within a controlled document management system.

"The newest release of Visio's product line and upgraded version of the Visio Business Modeler offers customers a complete toolkit for creating a graphical road map of their R/3 implementation," said Hasso Plattner, spokesman for the executive board and co-founder of SAP AG. "This allows customers and implementation partners to more easily communicate the 'as is' state of an organization's IT infrastructure while facilitating the creation of a business blueprint for a rapid implementation with R/3."

Adoption of the Visio Business Modeler Within SAP-Supported Methodologies

Visio's support of advanced Microsoft Windows technology, its unrivaled consistency with Microsoft Office and its presence as an enterprisewide diagramming standard support the goal of a common language to bring people together to manage change. In addition to its adoption within the SAP AcceleratedSAP implementation program for R/3, the Visio Business Modeler is also being used within the SAP Certified Business Solutions (CBS) program targeting the mid-enterprise and growth markets in North America. Additionally, the Visio Business Modeler offers customers a means of evaluating an R/3 purchase, whereby resellers, consultants and implementation partners can offer potential R/3 customers an affordably priced desktop tool to demonstrate the power behind R/3.
