New Visio Program Announced, Includes Participation of Leading Manufacturers

Valuable Relations with Network, Computer, Telecommunications and Premise Wiring Manufacturers Contribute to Content Database of Visio Network Equipment

SEATTLE, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ — Visio Corp. (Nasdaq: VSIO) today announced its formation of the Visio® Manufacturer's Program, with the participation of more than 110 partners including American Power Conversion Corp., Data General Corp., GigaLabs Inc., Hubbell Premise Wiring, MOD-TAP, Motorola Inc., Mitel Corp., NEC America Inc., PictureTel Corp., Symbol Technologies Inc. and Xylan Corp. The program, originally founded by SysDraw Software Co., is the result of Visio's acquisition of SysDraw earlier this year. Manufacturers now can offer major resellers and end users shapes of their company's equipment in Visio format, thus providing tools that enhance the visibility of the manufacturer's products and improve the success rate of proposals by integrators, consultants and VARs.

"We've seen tremendous growth in this area as network design and documentation have become a requirement throughout the industry — ranging from internal use for proposal creation, to on-site design, to providing customers additional services such as future design planning or ongoing documentation services," said John Rigas, director of Visio network solutions. "Our relationships with leading manufacturers, combined with our state-of-the-art graphics technology and tools for the network professional, have uniquely positioned us as a leader in this field."

Range of Program Participation

The Visio Manufacturer's Program is structured to offer a wide variety of services to participants. Many of the services employ a basic joint-marketing initiative that provides resellers and VARs special access to Visio network products based on their relationship or association with the participating manufacturer. Others request the creation of a customized version of Visio Network Equipment add-on that includes 100 percent of the specific manufacturer's products. Custom documentation, technical notes and help files related to a manufacturer's product line also are developed for inclusion in these customized editions. Resellers thus have valuable information to aid in the sales process of a manufacturer's product.

"Visio's ability to quickly create and deliver customized content, and its considerable expertise in the overall network tools market, have played an instrumental role in our efforts to enhance relations with our certified installers and networking consultants," said Brian McGlone, vice president and general manager at Hubbell Premise Wiring.

Use of Visio-Based, Manufacturer-Specific Content

The increasing standardization on Visio for network design and documentation within the network industry has prompted resellers and corporate end users to request a solution built on the Visio platform. Manufacturers can now point to an add-on product to solve this problem. Examples include the following:

  • Hubbell Premise Wiring offers certified installers a customized Visio-based library of comprehensive product data and specifications of their equipment in addition to a copy of Visio Professional, a diagramming standard among IT professionals. Hubbell Premise Wiring, a division of Hubbell Inc., is a leading supplier of optical fiber and UTP structured cabling systems.
  • Symbol Technologies Inc. plans to offer VARs Visio-based content of their wireless networking equipment for enhanced sales efforts. Symbol Technologies is the world leader in bar code-based data-transaction systems, with more than 3 million scanners and portable computers at work in industries requiring up-to-the-minute access to and control of critical data all along the business pipeline.
  • GigaLabs Inc. uses custom Visio-based shapes to prepare designs and proposals of its Gigabit Ethernet switch family. Sales engineers also use this customized content within presentations to showcase customer systems. The company specializes in providing high-end solutions to the world's foremost corporations, universities, medical institutions and government agencies, including AT&T Corp., Batelle, Bellcore, CERN, Fujitsu Microelectronics Inc., General Electric Co., Hewlett-Packard Co., Hitachi Ltd., IBM Corp., Jet Propulsion Laboratories, Lockheed Martin Corp., NASA, NTT, Raytheon Co., Shell Oil, Silicon Graphics Inc., Texas Instruments Inc., the University of California at Berkeley and Westinghouse Electric Corp.
