Visio Announces New Product to be Optimized for Windows NT Workstation 4.0

Extension of Visio Product Line Will Provide Corporate Information System Professionals with Premier Windows-Compatible Graphics Application

SEATTLE, July 31 /PRNewswire/ — Visio Corp. (Nasdaq: VSIO) today announced the preliminary details of a new product, named Visio® Professional, that is designed to offer diagramming capabilities for the management of information systems and business processes. Poised to become the solution of choice for network diagramming, software and database development, and business process management, this Visio product will be among the first new applications to include complete support for the Windows NT® Workstation 4.0 operating system, announced today by Microsoft Corp.

"Visio's proven first-class integration with Windows® desktop standards and resulting strength as an enterprisewide graphics platform have enabled users to recognize significant benefits in visualizing their business systems and processes," said Ted Johnson, Visio co-founder and vice president of worldwide products. "As corporations move to the secure, scalable Windows NT desktop, Visio products will be there. Visio Professional will be the first Visio product to fully embrace Windows NT 4.0, a product that we believe will be received enthusiastically by corporate end users. The release of Visio Professional is especially exciting as it will reach some of the most important application areas of graphics usage in business today, extending Visio products beyond their positions as market leaders in the technical drawing and business diagramming categories."

Another notable technology to be included within Visio Professional is Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications, which will offer users a common set of tools for customizing Visio and other programs that support the Microsoft ActiveX™ Automation interapplication programming interface. Automatic layout and automatic line routing technology acquired in March from Arcland Inc. also will be incorporated in Visio Professional, offering a natural supplement to Visio's existing flowcharting capabilities. Moreover, this technology will enhance Visio's suitability as a front end to workflow, simulation and application development tools.

In addition to supporting Windows NT Workstation 4.0, Visio Professional will support the Windows 95 and Windows NT 3.51 operating systems. Visio Professional is scheduled to ship in the fourth quarter of this year; pricing and additional details will be announced later. In the future, the entire Visio product line is expected to support Windows NT Workstation 4.0.
