SEATTLE, July 31 /PRNewswire/ — Visio Corp. (Nasdaq: VSIO) today announced the preliminary details of a new product, named Visio® Professional, that is designed to offer diagramming capabilities for the management of information systems and business processes. Poised to become the solution of choice for network diagramming, software and database development, and business process management, this Visio product will be among the first new applications to include complete support for the Windows NT® Workstation 4.0 operating system, announced today by Microsoft Corp.
"Visio's proven first-class integration with Windows® desktop standards and resulting strength as an enterprisewide graphics platform have enabled users to recognize significant benefits in visualizing their business systems and processes," said Ted Johnson, Visio co-founder and vice president of worldwide products. "As corporations move to the secure, scalable Windows NT desktop, Visio products will be there. Visio Professional will be the first Visio product to fully embrace Windows NT 4.0, a product that we believe will be received enthusiastically by corporate end users. The release of Visio Professional is especially exciting as it will reach some of the most important application areas of graphics usage in business today, extending Visio products beyond their positions as market leaders in the technical drawing and business diagramming categories."
Another notable technology to be included within Visio Professional is Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Applications, which will offer users a common set of tools for customizing Visio and other programs that support the Microsoft ActiveX™ Automation interapplication programming interface. Automatic layout and automatic line routing technology acquired in March from Arcland Inc. also will be incorporated in Visio Professional, offering a natural supplement to Visio's existing flowcharting capabilities. Moreover, this technology will enhance Visio's suitability as a front end to workflow, simulation and application development tools.
In addition to supporting Windows NT Workstation 4.0, Visio Professional will support the Windows 95 and Windows NT 3.51 operating systems. Visio Professional is scheduled to ship in the fourth quarter of this year; pricing and additional details will be announced later. In the future, the entire Visio product line is expected to support Windows NT Workstation 4.0.

Visio's powerful product architecture, combined with partner programs and third-party relationships in key market segments, is establishing Visio as a desktop platform standard for the creation of graphical solutions. The company markets the Visio product line in more than 26 countries throughout the world.
The discussion and the quoted language above, and the reference to the establishment of Visio as a desktop platform standard, contain forward-looking statements. There are certain important factors that could cause results to differ materially from those anticipated by some of the statements made above. Among these are fluctuations in quarterly performance, dependence on other products including Microsoft Windows, competition in the business drawing and diagramming software market, timing and customer acceptance of new products, the Company's ability to manage growth, potential changes in licensing and marketing methods and changes in general economic conditions. Additional information concerning these and other risks is described in the "Risk Factors" section of the prospectus contained in the Registration Statement on Form S-1 filed by the Company on Sept. 15, 1995, and, from time to time, in the Company's Securities and Exchange Commission reports, which include the Report on Form 10-Q for the quarter ended March 31, 1996.
