Visio Announces SAP R/3 Process Model Solution Based on the Visio Platform

R/3 Process Models Now Accessible to Customers Evaluating or Implementing SAP Software

SEATTLE, March 4 /PRNewswire/ — Visio Corp. (Nasdaq: VSIO) today announced a letter of intent with SAP AG to develop a Visio® solution designed to provide corporations with easy and pervasive access to SAP® R/3 process models through the intuitive Visio interface. The R/3 Process Model Solution will benefit customers involved in SAP implementations, those contemplating implementation of an SAP software solution, as well as those interested in gaining SAP expertise and applying it to their companies' process engineering efforts. R/3, SAP's market-leading client-server product, allows the integration of data across departments and consistent control of business processes throughout corporations.

"Visio has increasingly become the software program of choice for enterprise customers who use flowcharts to design, document and analyze business processes," said Gary Gigot, vice president of marketing at Visio. "This R/3 solution brings the extensive business-process model expertise of SAP to Windows users, thereby improving and accelerating the business-process definition phase. This in turn should help facilitate the understanding, evaluation and implementation of SAP software, while advancing Visio's position in a strategic part of the enterprise."

Visio's reference model solution, in Microsoft Access format, will provide more than 800 detailed R/3 process models under license from SAP. Users can simply select any of the models, and the corresponding Visio diagram will automatically be generated. This will allow users to navigate, read and annotate effortlessly within the Visio environment. Additional functions can then be performed such as editing the diagrams further, attaching data, and using Visio's reporting capability; the diagrams can then be saved as Visio files.

The letter of intent contemplates the signing of a definitive agreement in March 1996. When development has been completed on the R/3 Process Model Solution, Visio will make SAP R/3 process models available to a wide range of existing and potential SAP customers by offering the product at an attractive price point and through a broad distribution channel. Visio's R/3 Process Model Solution will be sold by Visio's corporate resellers and directly by Visio Corp. beginning in the second quarter of 1996.
