CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — Jan. 23, 1996 — MathSoft, Inc. (NASDAQ:MATH), the industry leader in technical applications software today announced an agreement to bundle a special version of Visio Corporation's Visio Express software with Mathcad 6.0 PLUS and Mathcad 6.0 Standard Edition. The combination gives Mathcad 6.0 users instant access to Visio's acclaimed drawing and diagramming tools to integrate technical illustrations in Mathcad documents along with calculations, text and graphs.
Known for its distinctive "live" document interface, built-in e-mail, World Wide Web and Lotus Notes connectivity, Mathcad is the most widely used calculation software for technical professionals, educators and students. This special version of Visio Express bundled with Mathcad allows users to create technical drawings or schematics by simply "dragging and dropping" Visio SmartShapes from the software's wide-range of electronic stencils. Visio drawings and diagrams can then be inserted directly into Mathcad documents. Visio Express for Mathcad provides a collection of multiple purpose and drawing templates from Visio products, including a comprehensive electrical engineering template. The application also allows users to create their own customized stencils and templates.
"Visio's powerful drawing and diagramming capabilities are a terrific enhancement to Mathcad. The combination creates the industry's only integrated environment for illustrating and sharing technical information," said Charles Digate, president and CEO of MathSoft. "Strategically, it is a pairing of established market leaders. It extends our reach in the retail channels, and leverages both Mathcad's and Visio's brand name recognition."
"Mathcad's position in the technical software market makes it the ideal product with which to partner in promoting the benefits of Visio's graphics technology to a wide range of technical professionals," said Jeremy Jaech, president and CEO of Visio. "While Visio has become a leading drawing and diagramming product among business and technical users, this partnership with MathSoft is intended to advance Visio as a product of choice for creating technical drawings and schematics."
