Dataviews' HMI-GO Turns Visio Technical into an Open and Powerful HMI Development Tool New Add-on Tool Now Shipping

NORTHAMPTON, Mass., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ — DataViews Corporation, the leading provider of open and high-performance HMI development tools for creating operator interfaces, today began shipping HMI-GO™ for Visio® Technical, an add-on tool that turns static Visio drawings into powerful human machine interface (HMI) displays. HMI-GO allows engineers to convert flat Visio drawings into production-quality, interactive HMI components, enabling them to more easily add HMI functionality to existing technical diagrams. These diagrams include piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), process flow diagrams (PFDs), industrial control schematics, building automation drawings, HVAC layouts and more. The shipping version of HMI-GO now features support for OPC connectivity, which promotes device interoperability. It also supports unlimited I/O capability, allowing developers to increase the complexity of an HMI display without paying additional, incremental costs.

Enterprises that use Visio Technical to create static drawings, such as a blueprint of the plant floor, frequently realize the need for a dynamic user interface version of their drawing in order to represent changing data. Prior to the release of DataViews' HMI-GO, these users would have been forced to re- create their drawings using an unrelated HMI software tool. HMI-GO, however, provides seamless integration with Visio Technical. Once installed, HMI-GO enables engineers to use the familiar Visio environment to convert static drawings into dynamic representations of plant processes.

"With over three million users, Visio is becoming the worldwide standard for graphical solutions in business," stated Jesse Shiah, vice president of corporate marketing at DataViews Corporation. "Through our collaboration with Visio, we have extended Visio Technical's capabilities from a technical drawing and diagramming tool to a powerful and open HMI development tool for creating operator interfaces that monitor and control live processes. Ultimately, HMI-GO leverages the corporation's investment in Visio Technical, saving money, speeding development, and shortening time-to-market."

DataViews' HMI-GO for Visio Technical:

Features the ability to add data-driven dynamics to Visio drawings to construct HMI behavior. HMI-GO lets users incorporate more than 20 pre- defined dynamic effects, including foreground and background color, blinking, fill, rotation, animation and more.

Supports open component technology such as ActiveX® and the COM API — allowing transformation of a Visio drawing — regardless of its complexity — into a single, high- performance ActiveX-based HMI component. Support for the COM API also gives developers a high degree of control over application performance and development.

Supports ODBC and OPC connectivity — allowing users to easily establish links between the HMI displays and data sources.

Enables addition of GUI components for construction of fully interactive interfaces using point-and-click functionality.

Provides flexible deployment options. Once a Visio drawing is turned into an HMI interface with HMI-GO, it can be deployed as a stand-alone or client/server application using standard Web browsers; it can also be deployed as an ActiveX control for incorporation into other applications.

"As an open, programmable platform, Visio Technical both affords our partners a tremendous opportunity to take advantage of our technical drawing expertise and to leverage our unique graphical capabilities to enhance the functionality of their products," said John Forbes, vice president of technical products at Visio Corp. "DataViews' HMI-GO for Visio Technical is an excellent example of leveraging Visio technology to deliver a modern application which uniquely serves the needs of the process industry."
