SEATTLE, June 4 /PRNewswire/ — PC World and Network World, two leading publications covering PC and networking technology, have recently honored Visio® Standard 5.0 and Visio Enterprise 5.0 with prestigious product awards. PC World selected Visio Standard 5.0 for a 1999 World Class Award for Best Business Graphics Software, while Network World granted Visio Enterprise 5.0 a Blue Ribbon Award in a comparative review of network autodiscovery products. Receiving two awards in separate product categories illustrates the breadth and strength of Visio graphics technology, soon to reach its sixth generation with the launch of the Visio 2000 platform later this year.
"We're excited that Visio Standard and Visio Enterprise have earned this recognition from these publications, particularly because the respective awards speak to the needs of very different types of drawing users — business professionals and network designers," said Mike Molendijk, director of Visio 2000 marketing at Visio Corp. (Nasdaq: VSIO). "As shown by these awards, the common Visio graphics platform that lies under Visio Enterprise and Visio Standard is well-suited for building best-of-class products for creating the many different types of drawings that are used within the organization."
Visio Standard 5.0 allows users to quickly create flow charts and business diagrams to enhance business communications and manage information, processes and concepts. Visio's pioneering approach to drag-and-drop drawing and its tight integration with Microsoft Office puts powerful graphics capabilities within reach of the mainstream business user.
Visio Standard's Best Business Graphics Software award was announced in the July 1999 issue of PC World, and Visio will be presented with trophies at an award ceremony to be held during PC Expo in New York. Celebrating its 17th year, the respected World Class Awards event honors the top hardware, software and Web products in the computer industry. To select the best of the best, PC World's editors, testers and contributors examined the gamut of products that have appeared in the magazine in the past year. Hundreds of products in 66 categories were judged on performance, value, consistency and innovation.
Visio Enterprise is a robust suite of design and modeling tools created for IT professionals who develop, manage and maintain enterprise information systems. Built on Visio Professional, the popular industry standard for IT diagramming and documentation, Visio Enterprise 5.0 provides functionality in three main IT domains: network design and documentation, software engineering and database design.
Network World's Test Alliance reviews network products of enterprise scope every week, including ethernet switches, routers, virtual LANs, enterprise SNMP managers and servers. Network World Blue Ribbon Awards are given to the highest-scoring product in a Network World comparative product review. In the May 3, 1999, issue, Network World reviewed Visio Enterprise's network design capabilities, granting it a Blue Ribbon Award after comparing Visio Enterprise favorably with NetFormx NetSuite SE 3.5 and NetSuite Professional Series 5.0.
