NEW YORK, June 21 /PRNewswire/ — Visio Corp. last night unveiled its support of Binder, a key feature of Microsoft® Office for Windows® 95, during Microsoft Corp.'s first in-depth public preview of Office. At the preview event at PC Expo in New York, the next version of Visio®, supporting Windows 95, was demonstrated as a key application for Microsoft Office 95.
The Binder feature allows users to create multisectioned documents, consisting of Word text, Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint® slides, Visio diagrams or other OLE 2.0-compliant documents. Users then have one document with multiple pages from various applications that can be opened, saved and printed as a single file.
"Visio's consistency with Microsoft Office makes it a natural extension to the Office desktop," said Chris Peters, vice president of the Office group at Microsoft. "Visio's leadership in OLE technology and support of our new Office Binder demonstrates how applications' consistency can truly expand the power of desktop computing."
"A prerequisite for developing applications that include the Binder feature is complete support of OLE 2.0 in-place editing," said Ted Johnson, vice president of product development at Visio Corp. "Visio's early investment in advanced OLE 2.0 technology enabled us to fully support the Binder feature in Microsoft Office 95 at the time of its release."
The next release of Visio and Visio Technical will be available concurrently with the release of Microsoft Windows 95, which is scheduled for release in August. Visio's support of Office for Windows 95 includes complete user-interface compatibility, full support for Binder, as well as capabilities that create diagrams directly from data entered in Microsoft Excel workbooks.
