Visio to Demonstrate Support for VBA 6.0 at Tech*Ed 99

Latest Version of Popular Automation Tool is One of Many Developer Enhancements Found in Visio 2000

SEATTLE, May 19 /PRNewswire/ — Visio Corp. (Nasdaq: VSIO) today announced that it will preview Visio® 2000 technology publicly for the first time in Booth No. 416 at the Microsoft Tech*Ed 99 Conference May 21-28 in Dallas. In addition, Visio will demonstrate Visio 2000's support for the latest version of Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). VBA 6.0 is one of many developer-related enhancements that Visio, a sponsor of Tech*Ed 99, has incorporated into the Visio graphics platform, the foundation of the industry-leading Visio Enterprise, Visio Professional, Visio Technical and Visio Standard business drawing and technical diagramming products. Since shipping the first third-party VBA-enabled application in 1997, Visio software has become the predominant Windows application platform for developing custom graphics solutions that are integrated with Microsoft Office and other VBA-enabled applications.

"Our corporate customers have embraced the power of the Visio graphics architecture to solve real-world business problems," said Scott Campbell, senior group manager for the Platform Development Customer Unit at Visio. "The Visio platform provides developers with a flexible, mature graphics technology for creating and delivering drawing and diagramming solutions to all of the desktops in their organizations. Because Tech*Ed reaches developers who need and understand the power of Visio technology, it's an excellent venue for us to publicly preview the developer-specific enhancements we will soon deliver in the entire Visio 2000 product line, such as VBA 6.0."

Proven Maturity in the Visio 2000 Development Platform

Since Visio 1.0, the Visio architecture has provided developers with the robustness, completeness and flexibility necessary to support custom line-of-business applications. With a fourth-generation application programming interface (API), the Visio 2000 platform provides developers with a refined, mature object model that is completely exposed to the Microsoft COM programming interface. New developer-specific features, such as the ability to add new windows, set and receive the zoom level of a window and control the scrolling of a window, provide corporate developers with additional flexibility in deploying Visio-based applications throughout their enterprises.

Developers not attending Tech*Ed 99 who are interested in learning more about Visio technology can visit the Visio Developer Network (VDN) at ( http://www.visio.com/vdn/ ). This site contains a variety of development-related information, including articles and white papers about Visio customization, case studies, information on developer support and developer training resources, and an online version of the book "Developing Visio Solutions." The VDN is an evolving, dynamic site that provides frequently updated content based on developer needs and feedback. Registered members of the site have access to additional information, support and resources to help them develop robust applications based on Visio graphics technology.
