SEATTLE, April 19 /PRNewswire/ — Visio Corp. (Nasdaq: VSIO) today announced that Visio® Enterprise, launched in October 1998, has been showered with acclaim by leading industry publications, receiving Product of the Year and Editor's Choice designations. Visio Enterprise also has been named a finalist for three additional industry awards.
"We are very pleased with the tremendous industry recognition that Visio Enterprise has captured," said Jeremy Jaech, president and CEO of Visio. "We developed this product with the hope that we were breaking the mold of traditional software offerings, and this subsequent praise has reinforced that belief."
Visio Enterprise is a robust suite of design and modeling tools created for IT professionals who develop, manage and maintain enterprise information systems. Built on Visio's award-winning Visio Professional, the popular industry standard for IT diagramming and documentation, Visio Enterprise 5.0 provides functionality in three main IT domains: network design and documentation, software engineering and database design.
Today, the editors of Network Magazine announced their selections for 1998 Products of the Year, recognized by the editors as the most significant products in various categories that shipped last year. Visio Enterprise was awarded Product of the Year in the Network Design category. Network Magazine's Product of the Year awards will be presented May 12 during NetWorld+Interop in Las Vegas.
"Network Magazine's Product of the Year Awards are chosen by the editors to recognize the most significant products in the categories that matter most to readers — the people who manage, administer and support enterprise networks," said Steve Steinke, editor in chief of Network Magazine.
Visio Enterprise's Auto Discovery™ capabilities, which include discovery of directory and database structures as well as physical networks, in combination with its full drawing and linking abilities, were key factors in the editors' choice of Visio Enterprise for Network Magazine's Network Design Product of the Year, according to Steinke.
Network Magazine is a monthly publication that specifically covers computer networks. Providing real-world, in-depth features about the network and all the products that build the network since 1986, the publication is delivered to over 204,000 network, IT and corporate managers charged with managing and purchasing their company's networks.
The development community has consistently recognized the technological excellence and ease of programmability offered by the Visio product line. At Fawcette Technical Publications' recent Visual Basic Insiders' Technical Summit (VBITS) in San Francisco, Visual Basic Programmer's Journal (VBPJ) announced its annual awards, where Visio Enterprise was given the 1999 Editor's Choice Award.
"VBPJ's readers and editors chose Visio's products because of their innovation grounded in real-world solutions," said Jeff Hadfield, editor in chief of VBPJ. "Visio's VBA integration and robust object model, plus its rich feature set, make it a solid choice for Visual Basic programmers."
VBPJ is a monthly publication that covers a broad cross section of Visual Basic-related development topics, issues and trends and is targeted toward Microsoft Windows programmers. It features hands-on, how-to technical articles that help readers increase productivity and build applications more efficiently.
Novell Inc.'s Developer's Contest recognizes applications that utilize Novell's next-generation technologies. Applications are judged by Novell's DeveloperNet Labs, with tests based on performance, ease of use and quality. The winners represent the next wave of applications that work in every network environment.
Visio Enterprise 5.0 is a Developer's Contest award winner based on its full set of network documentation tools, including a direct link to Novell Directory Services (NDS) that automatically diagrams trees, creates or updates tree structures, and exports directly to the NDS database.
Visio Enterprise is a finalist in the Software Development Jolt Product Excellence Awards, in the category of Design and Management Tools. The Jolt Awards are given to products that "jolt" the industry with their significance and make the difficult task of creating corporate software faster, easier and more efficient. The Jolt Award winners will be announced at the Software Development West Conference and Exhibition, May 10-12 in San Francisco.
Visio Enterprise also has been honored with finalist status for awards at two recent industry events: ComNet DC '99 and FOSE '99.
During ComNet DC '99, Visio Enterprise was a finalist in the ComNet New Product Achievement Competition. Finalists were chosen on the merits of being considered the best new products making their debut at the show. At FOSE '99, a government-specific IT industry event and symposium, Visio Enterprise was a finalist in the Enterprise Software category of the Government Computer News New Product Award competition.
