SEATTLE, and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ — Visio Corp. (Nasdaq: VSIO) and IntelliCorp Inc. (Nasdaq: INAI) today announced the transfer to IntelliCorp of future development and support responsibility for the Visio® Business Modeler. In conjunction with the agreement, IntelliCorp announced a three-part strategy that responds to specific requests of the two companies' customers: First, IntelliCorp will create a follow-on product, the IntelliCorp Business Visualizer (IBV) 1.0, which will be provided free to current Visio Business Modeler subscribers. Second, through an OEM arrangement with Visio, IntelliCorp will enhance its high-end modeling environment by incorporating the diagramming capabilities of Visio Professional into IntelliCorp's LiveModel™. And third, IntelliCorp will build a migration path for individual Visio Business Modeler users to LiveModel's collaborative business-process management functionality.
Under the agreement, IntelliCorp licensed the Visio Business Modeler source code from Visio to enable rapid development of the IBV, which will incorporate the more than 1,200 business-process models in the SAP™ R/3™ Reference Model versions 4.0 and 4.5. IBV 1.0 will perform substantially the same functions as Visio Business Modeler. Through the OEM licensing of Visio Professional, IntelliCorp will also develop products that will further ease the migration from individual visualization to collaborative business-process management.
Both Visio Business Modeler and IntelliCorp's LiveModel are used by a wide range of customers, including SAP AG itself, users' own IT departments, and implementation consultants for the SAP R/3 solution.
"This move by Visio and IntelliCorp will provide a strong path forward for our 3,800 SAP implementation consultants, who have standardized on Visio Professional and IntelliCorp's LiveModel," said Juergen Sattler, practice director, SAP Service Line at Deloitte Consulting/ICS. "The two companies offer important and complementary technology for the design, documentation and analysis of R/3 processes."
"We believe that this is a win-win for customers and for both of these vendors," said Judith Hurwitz, president of the Hurwitz Consulting Group, Framingham, Mass. "Visio customers get an upgrade path to the underlying IntelliCorp business-process management tool, and IntelliCorp gets a diagramming and documentation tool added to its product line."
IntelliCorp's LiveModel is a powerful multiuser environment that allows users to define, manage and communicate business processes among users, developers and implementation teams. It is typically used to accelerate an R/3 implementation by modeling the R/3 system and ensuring that the designed system will run.
"We are delighted to welcome the Visio Business Modeler customers into the IntelliCorp user community," said Ken Haas, IntelliCorp president. "We look forward to creating advanced solutions that meet our customers' growing diagramming and modeling needs throughout the ERP life cycle."
Visio Business Modeler is a low-cost, easy-to-use, graphical desktop visualization and documentation tool designed to educate individual users about SAP business processes, document existing processes and distribute the resulting diagrams. Visio Business Modeler is currently licensed to about 8,000 users worldwide. The product (an add-on to Visio Standard, Visio Technical or Visio Professional) contains the more than 800 business process diagrams of SAP R/3 3.0a to 3.1h, licensed from SAP. These diagrams provide a comprehensive graphical view of the event-driven process chains that underlie the SAP R/3 enterprise-information-management applications.
"The Visio Business Modeler has been a strategic component of our product line for more than three years, offering SAP clients an easy way to document, share and update vital business process diagrams," said Ted Johnson, executive vice president and chief technology officer of Visio Corp. "We view this agreement with IntelliCorp as a way for Visio customers to extend and enhance their capabilities, and ultimately facilitate streamlined SAP implementations."
IBV 1.0 will be available directly from IntelliCorp during the first quarter of 1999. It will be free to those who were active subscription and maintenance Visio Business Modeler customers before Nov. 20, 1998. Market pricing for the IBV product line has not yet been determined.
