SEATTLE, Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ — Shapeware Corporation today announced the shipment of Visio Home™ 3.0, its new drag and drop drawing program for the home consumer market. Designed specifically for home computer users, Visio Home 3.0 enables everyone in the family to easily create useful drawings and diagrams for home, school, hobbies, sports and personal creativity.
"Currently, there is a gap in the home market for an easy-to-use drawing program that can be used for a variety of drawing needs," said Jeremy Jaech, president of Shapeware. "With Visio Home 3.0, we plan to fill that gap by providing home-computer users with a tool that allows them to easily create directional maps, house and landscape plans, calendars, schoolwork drawings, family trees, and more. Because Visio Home 3.0 is simple to learn and use, it enables everyone in the family to create useful graphics — and have fun at the same time."
Visio Home 3.0 builds on the innovative drag and drop capabilities of Visio™ 3.0, making the product flexible and easy to use. Visio Home 3.0 provides three benefits that users often request when describing the ideal drawing program for their home PCs: It is easy to use, useful and appeals to everyone in the household.
The ease of use of Visio Home 3.0 begins with installation, even before users run the program. Rather than providing only one icon in the Microsoft® Windows™ Program Manager, Visio Home 3.0 provides an icon for each drawing type. Users need only double-click the icon representing the type of drawing they want to create, and Visio Home 3.0 configures itself appropriately.
To draw with Visio Home 3.0, users simply click predrawn shapes from a selection of stencils, drag them to the Visio Home 3.0 drawing area, and drop them into place. Visio Home actually does the drawing for them. To add text to a shape, users just select the shape and type the text. With the SmartShapes™ technology of Visio Home 3.0, text automatically appears where it should and in a format that makes sense to users. To get help at any time, users can click the right mouse button to obtain more information.
The stencils in Visio Home 3.0 are electronic versions of the green plastic stencils used in pencil-and-paper drawing. Visio Home 3.0 provides more than 30 stencils containing 900 predrawn SmartShapes. By dragging and dropping SmartShapes, users can create useful drawings and diagrams for the following applications:
"Visio Home is the essential all-in-one drawing tool for the home PC," said Ivar Michelsons, Visio Home product manager. "A solid foundation of home software should include a word processor, a personal finance program and Visio Home."
In addition to the hundreds of SmartShapes in Visio Home, the program also provides a straightforward set of drawing tools that enables users to draw from scratch as well as draw by dragging and dropping. The product also allows users to import their own clip art. With Visio Home's wide range of drawing types, everyone in the family can create useful drawings without actually drawing a thing.
Visio Home 3.0 is available today from leading national distributors, software resellers, mail-order catalogs and directly from Shapeware. The U.S. suggested retail price of Visio 3.0 is $79, including 90 days of free technical support and a 60-day, money-back guarantee. The estimated street price is $49. Registered users of earlier versions of Visio Home or Visio can purchase Visio Home 3.0 for $39 directly from Shapeware. (Registered users who purchase Visio Home 3.0 from a software reseller can use the $10 rebate coupon that appears in the Visio Home product box.)
