OVER THE PAST TWO months, I have completed an attic studio, created a new home office, built a two-room vacation cabin and even drafted plans for the first floor of a house. My industriousness might raise eyebrows, considering that I can't draw and don't have an architecture degree. But the big catch is that none of the projects are real -- well, they're virtually real. They are the fruits of a foray into the world of CAD (short for Computer-Aided Design, though to me it sometimes stood for Crazy, Absurd Data). In the process, I have often felt like Alice falling down the tunnel to Wonderland, except that I haven't been following a rabbit, but a mouse.

(Nasdaq: VSIO) announced today that it has received a request from the U.S. Department of Justice for additional information in connection with the Hart-Scott-Rodino filing relating to the proposed acquisition by Microsoft Corp. Both companies are required to supply additional information and documentation to comply with the request. The request extends the waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act for a period ending 20 days after the parties have furnished the information.

Visio Corp. of Seattle said the Justice Department has requested information about the company's proposed acquisition by Microsoft Corp. The drawing-software company said both companies are required to supply information for the antitrust review, which Visio president Jeremy Haech said "is fairly routine in a transaction of this size." He added that "We remain optimistic that we will complete the transaction in late calendar 1999 or January 2000." Microsoft agreed in September to acquire Visio for about $1.3 billion in stock.
